St Leonard

‘This parish amongst others in W was united to St Mary’s there by an act or order of Parliament in Oliver’s time, to which church our parishioners went till Mr Pinckney the minister there died.  And our present minister Mr Austell was put by, and our church by the wars was much defaced, the seats and our three little bells were carried to St Mary’s aforesaid, and the said bells amongst others were melted or cast into six bells now hung up there.  And afterwards our church was turned into a stable house.  And since our time our said minister Mr Austell (having a cure called Satwell where he liveth that belongs to our church) when sent to, he comes and baptizeth buryeth and churcheth according to the Book of Common Prayer.  But for our minister praying preaching and administring the Lords Supper, he have not above once performed it since our time, neither has it been done by any else in our church.  And we conceave tis by reason of his age and weaknes.

Our churchyard is mounded, and the goods belonging else to the church is in our Ministers hands and ours, as the Great Bible the Book of Common Prayer the Surplice the pulpet Cushen a pewter flagon a filter cupp and cover to it.  But the pulpet and cloth the table with the linnen cloth and carpett were taken away and lost in the wars.

Upon common fame we present John Adams and his supposed wife for not being lawfully married living together and have had one child but tis dead.

Upon common fame we present Mr Sarah [sic] Dennis and his wife, and also Mrs Sutton the wife of Thomas Sutton, for being papist recusants.’
